Kodiak made his way slowly to the riverside, knowing full well that Angel would appear soon. He sat down in the cold snow and faced where he had just come from. This river was a run off from the lagoon, not too far, so he could make it there in no time if he needed to. The part of the river that he sat by was beautiful, as was most areas of Mitane, and the freshly falling snow made it that more breathtaking. Further down the river he could easily hear the rushing of water, but here it was only a musical trickle. Rocks dotted the water's surface, large enough for a wolf to jump on to get across, but if they were to fall... the rapids downstream wouldn't be very forgiving. Kodiak's face was still the same as before, showing little emotion as he waited for Angel to arrive.

Angel's white pelt moved forward with Kodiak as they neared the river. The female didn't like how his face looked, so stern that it seemed she really had done something wrong. Her already white pelt was becoming cold from the snowfall. Once she saw Kodiak had stopped and sat, she sat down also, though in a much more crouching position; Like when she had first met him. She dared not speak, looking at the ground with her ears pulled back. She sighed, looking at his russet fur, stained with blood, though with the snow melting on him it was slowly washing away. But now wasn't the time for daydreaming, she had to pay close attention to her Alpha.

| Kodiak's silver gaze picked up the rustle as Angel appeared, and when she did his face softened. His eyes became warm and his muscles relaxed slightly. "Angel.." he sighed, looking down at the fresh snow in front of her. He sighed and looked up to meet her gaze. "About what you said at the cave." He paused. He wasn't used to this. "I-... What do I think about you?" He was stalling now, stumbling over words to find the right ones. "I can't explain it," he finally said, giving up on trying to choose words. He just let them flow. "Every time I see you... it feels like I can relax. Peaceful. I like that feeling. Then when your not there everything is tense and it feels like I can't take much of it. It's like you take all of the pressure away." He wasn't sure how far to go with his little speech, so he just paused and waited for her reply. He wouldn't blame her if she just flat out ran away from him just then. | |

| Angel looked up at him, he seemed embarresed for some reason. The female walked over to him, laying down before his paws and streched out her own to make them almost reach his. Her hind legs also streched, more relaxed than before with his reaction. Angel layed her head between her paws, in the soft, cold snow, looking up into his beautiful silver eyes warmly. "Re-Really..?" She couldn't believe her ears, he liked her better than she thought. | |

| Kodiak's ears went flat when Angel lay in front of him. He sank to the ground where he was and joined her, stretching his body along side her's. "Yes," he answered, meeting her gaze with warm eyes.

| Angel jumped a bit when he lay beside her, though was enjoying the warmth of him being nearer to her. She felt less skittish around him now, he seemed nicer to her for some reason. The female was beginning to wonder why she had even asked that question, but somehow kept repeating the conversation. "But why? Why me?" She couldn't understand why it would be her that relaxed him, she wasn't anything special; She wasn't doing anything helpful. She let out a small sigh, looking back up to him. 'Why is any of this happening?' | |

| He gave a small sigh and looked down. "I don't know," he admitted, and looked up at her again. "It's a strange feeling, I told you before it was hard to explain." Questions started filling his head. She'd been able to ask him how he felt about her, but he couldn't bring himself to ask that same question. The air was filling with big fluffy puffs of snow as the two wolves spoke, and the cirping of birds could be heard nearby. There was no breeze today, thankfully, so it wasn't freezing out. | |

| Angel looked into his silver eyes with a special gleam in her own. She could tell he wasn't telling her something. But before she could talk he spoke first, and his words still made her confused. I mean, seriously, she wasn't exactly the bravest wolf you've met. She left a pack battle, for pity's sake! When he finished talking, she brought up her previous thoughts lightly, not wanting to upset him. "What's wrong?" The white tail of the female began to wag slightly, even though she didn't want it to. 'Stop it,' she told her self through thought, but it didn't help a bit.
The vixen stopped gazing into his metallic eyes and turned to the snow, deep in thought as she waited for him to answer. Most times she was flashing her belly, but she seemed slightly more confident now, at least with him. 'But why him?' She thought, rambling on about those sort of things in her head. But that was a good question, it was like the how Kodiak was more relaxed beside her. Sort of vice versa, she was braver around him.

| Kodiak gave her a small smile, hoping to hide his embarrasment. He'd never done this before and he really didn't know what to say. He nipped himself inwardly and, once again, let the words flow. "Since I've told you what I feel, I've been wondering the same about you. What do you think about when your around me?" he said, gazing into her deep blue eyes. His voice was soft despite the truth of his words and thoughts. The peacefulness was still lying over him like a thick blanket and he was thoroughly enjoying it. He loved this moment, just being himself with her, not having to mask himself and be a leader. Here, he was comfortable, thoughtful, peaceful. Only she could bring that out in him. He didn't want this single moment to end. | |

| Angel flicked an ear in his direction when she heard him speak, shaking off a small amount of snow that had sat on it. His words confused her a bit, she didn't expect him to ask that. She hesitated for a bit, thinking over what her answer would be. Usually wolves didn't bother asking her the question. 'What I think of him..?' She thought over it a bit, finally coming to a decision.
"Well," she started, still staring into the freshly fallen snow. "Kodiak, I do like you." She hadn't exactly planned it out, so she was just going with the flow where she didn't know what to say really. "Y-You make me.. More confident, braver. I suppose it's something like me relaxing you." She was embarrassed at talking about this, and wasn't so sure what she said should be said, but she said them anyway.

| Kodiak stared at the snow in front of him as his ears picked up her sweet voice. She still sounded hesitant, but he could tell that her words were the truth. She did seem more confident right now, or at least more so than when the two were back at the cave with the others. Kodiak felt a small smile creep onto his maw, and he met her gaze once again. He leaned forward slightly so that his nose touched hers gently. His voice took on a lighter tone, almost teasing but it still held a tenderness that only she could make shine through him. "I still need an alpha female, you know," he said, the smile growing very slightly. A thought flashed through his mind and he moved his muzzle away so that their noses were no longer touching. He flattened his ears. "I'm... sorry if I'm going too far," he murmured quietly, dragging his gaze away from her soft blue eyes. He got to his paws and walked a few steps away to sit down facing the river. He glared at one of the rocks in the black water and sighed inwardly. Why'd I have to go and say that? he muttered. I just ruined everything. His head dropped as he continued his glare at the rock.
What's happening? Mayi's voice cut through his thoughts. I'll tell you later, leave me alone for now, okay? he growled. There was no reply from Mayi and he sighed inwardly again. I'm sorry, he apologized. It's alright. I'll leave you alone. Her voice was kind and soft this time. He'd been forgiven for his grumpiness.

| Angel's ears perked up when Kodiak had touched his nose to her's, flattening them again when he pulled away. He seemed different than before, at least with her. She looked into his beautiful, silver eyes again, only to see that he'd turned away from her. What he said was surprising, but she liked them. The she-wolf had somehow ended up leaning on him, and when he stood up she fell to her side a bit. The snowflakes still fell, and had collected onto Angel's fur a considerable amount. She stood to her paws and shook it off fairly easily, and looked around for Kodiak through the falling crystals of ice. Her paws carried her over to where she saw a figure, and as she moved closer she could tell more and more that it was him. She stopped a few steps behind him, and her ears flattened against her white head softly.
"Kodiak.." She muttered under her breath, taking yet another step forward. She could tell he was uneasy, or confused. Whichever it was, it wasn't helping Angel not act the same way. "I-If that was an offer.." The vixxen paused, closing her eyes. 'I hope I wont get in trouble for this..' She opened her eyes again, and let them look into his eyes again, not caring if he turned away afterwards. The female knew that whatever her answer would be, it would change her life, but she didn't care. Just this one moment, just this once, she wanted to be unafraid of the side-effects. Her eyes held a caring, loving gleam, one showing that whatever she was about to say was the truth.
"I.. I-I love you, Kodiak."

| Kodiak didn't turn to her, still continueing his glare at the rock, but he knew she was there. He listened to her speak and braced himself for her regection, but he wasn't prepared for the words she chose. "I... I-I love you, Kodiak." He turned toward her slowly. It felt like his heart actually skipped a beat, but he payed no mind to it. He stood up, holding her gaze. He took a step toward her carefully, almost cautiously. His face held surprise; he wasn't sure he heard her right. "You... you love me?" he asked, his voice quiet. He continued his careful approach toward her, the female's words still lingering in his mind like sweet honey. He was at a loss of words for how he felt; all he could do was hold her beautiful gaze and repeat those words in his mind again and again. She was almost invisible in the snow; her pelt blending in perfectly in the white sea around them. Her soft blue eyes, too, were well hidden in the downpour. | |

| The white vixxen raised a paw in surprise to him coming so close so quickly, but lowered it again when she was sure he wasn't mad. Her fuzzy neck lowered with her head. His tone seemed so hopeful in his last words, which made her somewhat curious to if he felt the same. "Y-Yes," she stuttered a bit from embarrassment and a bit of nervousness. Angel took a step forward and nuzzled his chest in relief, all worry flooded out of her like a river over a cliff. "I have for a little while now.." She admitted, continuing to nuzzle his chest softly, and even gave him a small lick on the chin to prove it if he didn't believe her words. | |

| Kodiak halted his approach when Angel met him the rest of the way, giving a soft nuzzle and then an even softer lick. He exhaled his breath and lowered his head to rest it on her neck, gently nuzzling her. Just as before, his muscles relaxed and he felt a blanket of peace wrap around him. "I have too," he murmured quietly. "I was just..." He sighed and tried again. He couldn't believe this was happening. "I was just... embarrased, I guess. I thought it was silly at first, but then when I was able to talk to you more... I realized it was so much more than that." He pulled back from her to he could look into her beautiful blue eyes once more. "I love you, Angel," he said, his metallic eyes holding nothing more than the love and concern he had for her, echoing his words over and over again. "More than anything." | |

Angel lowered her body slightly to the ground, now thinking over her decision of doing what she had done. She wasn't even sure if he felt the same way. It made her even more unsure when he rested his head on her's, but somehow, someway, she could tell it was a good thing. She let out a sigh of relief and relaxed; Finally accepting that everything would be alright. She was cherishing this moment more than she had with any other before, and probably any after. But just when she thought it could never end, he pulled away from her. The she-wolf flattened her ears, ready for the worst; Even though she had just believed it to be the best time she'd ever had. But what she heard him say made her think that way again.
"I love you, Angel."
Everything he said made her feel as if butterflies were in her stomach. After all, it wasn't every day a wolf confessed love to her. And what a glorious feeling it was having he, Kodiak, do so. Her soft, blue eyes met his shimmering silver ones, and she could tell that his words were nothing but the truth. Angel couldn't think of anything to say at all, so she put action as her words. The vixen took a step up to him and gave him yet another gentle nuzzle, only this time it was more to his cheek. She took a step back again, lowering her head in a sort of "sorry" position just in case she had gone too far. Then she finally had it. She knew what she was to say, but made sure to drag it out. The female closed her eyes and hoped for the best, that she hadn't made the wrong choice.
"A-And what was that y-you asked me earlier?"
Her speech was shaky and a bit frightened. But she'd managed to get the courage to say it, didn't she? She opened her blue pools yet again and look at his own, and could just imagine that his answer would be a good one.

| Kodiak flattened his ears, feeling her soft, gentle touch to his cheek. She moved away and it looked as if she regretted what she had done, but her eyes told a different story. Her posture and actions were confusing; at one time she'd feel the same way he did to her, but at other times it was as if she thought he'd attack her if she did anything wrong. Her eyes, however, held all the truth he needed. Her question confused him and he searched desperately in his mind to find what he'd said earlier. Then he recalled the words he'd said before; the ones he honestly regretted saying. Not that he didn't think she'd be a good leader, or that he didn't like her, he just felt he'd rushed things a bit at that point. But now that she brought it back up, he'd answer it. "I know, Angel, without a doubt that you would make a perfect leader. And I know, with you at my side, that this pack will be the strongest." He lowered his head to her and gently touched her nose, as he had done before. "But if you don't want to lead... You don't have to. I won't make you." | |

Angel's thoughts swirled around in her mind and confused her. Half of her was sure he wouldn't like her actions, and another half believed he would. She was ready to paw at her head and shake it, but when Kodiak touched noses with her she felt herself calm down and her fur relax from the partially-bristled state. Had he really done what she thought he did? Oh, yes. He did. He wonderfully did. The white female's ears perked up to his motions, and her tail beginning to wag, though she made sure to keep it at a very slow rate. She was ready to smile, but before she could his strong voice spoke.
"I know, Angel, without a doubt that you would make a perfect leader."
Her eyes looked at the freshly-fallen snow, thinking over what he had said. the rest of those steadily-spoken words seemed to slip away, at least until he would say something else. His words sounded truthful, but did he honestly just ask her to be.. Alpha? Angel thought over this many times, until she finally found the conclusion. Kodiak had asked her to become the lead female of the entire pack. Was she up for the job? Was she stable enough to protect the pack? She pushed away from the brown-hued male and sat down not even a foot from where she had already stood, looking as if she was desperately trying to decide on the answer. And that's just what she was doing. Her azure pools closed, and a tear fell from her blue-patched eye. Was she really fit for the duties an Alpha always must fulfill?
"But if you don't want to lead... You don't have to. I won't make you."
The vixen lifted her neck from the frozen water and thought one last time over her decision. Her only choices were accept, or decline. If she were to make the wrong choice, it was very, very doubtful that she would get this chance again. Angel took in a long, deep breath, standing up to her paws once again. She lowered her head, but managed to stop her tail from tucking between her hind limbs; Though it didn't wag. At least not until she was sure of his reaction. The femme began padding slowly to the brute she had just walked away from, stopping in front of Kodiak, her Alpha, maybe on or two inches away from doing what they had earlier. This was it. This was the moment that would change her forever and ever, whether it be a storybook ending or a nightmare.
"I.. I-I.. Kodiak.."
".. Yes."

Kodiak's metallic eyes softened as Angel pulled away. He caught the small tear making it's way down her soft pelt, and wanted to go comfort her, but he knew she was choosing. Choosing one of the two options she had right now. It was a big decision, so he didn't mind; he gave her her room and sat where he was. His fur was fluffed out every which way because of the cold, but he didn't mind right now. Thankfully, all of the blood from before had washed off his pelt and he no longer felt the little pricks when he moved. He kept his gaze on Angel, but it wasn't impatient; he would wait as long as she needed. Even if it was a no.
Kodiak straightened his body, finding his back ache a bit since he was slumping in his posture before. He closed his eyes for only a moment, and when he opened them again, Angel was before him. She looked more confident now, and he was glad. He got to his paws as she did and pricked his ears, eager for her response. "Yes." he heard her say. That one simple word held power and confidence. He couldn't believe she'd said it. He felt a smile play at his lips, and he didn't hold it back. His eyes brightened and he closed the distance between them with a gentle lick on her muzzle. "Thank you," he said.

Angel continued to ponder over whether her decision was the right one, though somewhere deep inside she knew it was the best answer. Her head lowered slightly and a lone tear fell again, her face turned half-way from the male. She awaited his reply anxiously, nearly biting her lip in anticipation. Her eyes refrained from shutting, staring into the soft blanket of snow with tears slowly falling from her pools, up until he made a move. She could hear him nearing in the already small distance between them, and was startled a bit when he came over and licked her muzzle bridge. She hadn't expected this, at least not by much. She had mainly thought he would chase her off or something. But no, he didn't do the way that made the female scared, it was the one the surprised her. Of course, he might be trying to fool her. That's what she'd though, until he spoke with his caring, yet strong voice.
"Thank you."
The vixen closed her aqua-colored eyes, letting out a sigh of relief to of heard his reaction at last. But still, she kept her more cautious side, just in case. It wasn't that she didn't belive him, it was just her nature to be careful. Then, at last, she turned her head to him, pushing her neck back and looking into his steel-colored pools. She took a step forward and nuzzled his chest, her heart racing from all the excitement out of nowhere. She'd felt the excitement the whole time, yes, but only now did she fully let it take her over. The female's tail began to wag back and forth, but at a fairly even pace. At this point you'd think she'd be panting at any amount, but she kept it within herself. It seemed Kodiak didn't hate her, or didn't want her around, but the question still stood tall.
Was it to be a happy ending?

Kodiak felt the softness of her touch, and he couldn't help but to let a smile escape. He closed his eyes and turned his head so that her's was cradled between his shoulder and head. He held it gently; she felt so fragile beside him... So breakable. I'd give anything to keep her safe, he murmured to himself mentally. Even at the cost of my life, as long as she is safe I'll be happy. He stood there for a moment, not wanting this to end, when a thought popped into his head. He growled inwardly at the voice that spoke.
Kodiak, what's going on? You seem... happy. That's odd for you. Mayi. She chuckled at her words. And why were you so snappy before? Kodiak thought over his responce first, and was happy to say it. Angel accepted to be alpha female, he said happily. The reason I was so grumpy before... I thought I'd said the wrong thing and ruined everything. It's fine now, though. Everything worked out for the best. Mayi giggled slightly, but she could feel that his words were the truth; he loved her like there was no end. Well you'd better come back, the sun is almost up. Kodiak stepped away from his beloved Angel and glanced up at the sky to see that his anima was right; there was pink on the horizon showing that the sun was on it's way up. Kodiak returned his metallic gaze on the female and met her soft blue eyes. "You think we should get back?" he asked, grinning slightly in a more playful way.

Angel could feel his gentle touch wrap around her slender build partially, his warmth adding to her's. Her small body was so tiny compared to the strongly-built one of Kodiak's. She was built more for speed, and stealth, not so much of strength and power; Like what he had, which was why she knew she couldn't have picked a better one than he. When he pulled away her ears flattened down to her skull and lifted one of her front legs up in a somewhat curious fashion. The white she-wolf looked up to the sky, knowing he was still looking at her, and saw the breaking of dawn in the far distance, only determined where they were by the soft lavender color coating the east. But even with this, the birds still huddled in the trees and the mice still hid in their holes, sleeping to their delight. The female's ears perked towards the horizon, slowly getting brighter until a slight orange was in the far distance, but barely. Her entire body was facing the new day, enjoying the beauty that she rarely got to see.
"You think we should get back?"
The vixen's ear pulled back towards the source of the voice, and her head turned to the brute that was right beside her. She wasn't really sure about going back, where all the noise was. And another thing was the beauty of the sunrise, they would probably miss out on it if they returned. But there were also good things about returning, for one thing they'd be able to get some sleep in the warm den, and another was to keep an eye on the lone wolves; Who knows whether they're friendly or not. This brought Angel's legs to shake a bit, thinking about the one black wolf; Shadowclaw. It was hard to trust him, but at least he seemed fairly well-mannered. Her joints stiffened as she began to worry about things not thought about until Kodiak brought up returning, things like whether another fight will start or not, and how soon if so. She was the lead female now, and yet she still felt she wasn't quite right for the job. Last time when she was only low-ranking she didn't even help defend the pack from an attack. Her mind was no different, she would rather keep away from the battles and live with the peace. And yet, somehow she wanted to protect the pack. Was is what all Alphas felt? Just new ones? Or just her? Questions swirled in her mind wildly, but she ceased when she'd decided an answer.
"That would be best, the others are probably wondering where we are, and why we haven't come back yet."
Angel whispered with a sweet voice, finally answering his question. The entire time she'd been looking into his ash-colored eyes, daydreaming of what was to happen next, and how it would play out. She took a few steps back, and walked towards the lagoon that was behind the brown Alpha. She stopped, and turned her neck back, cocking her head a bit to the side; He ears perked up in a normal way.
"Aren't you coming? It was your idea, wasn't it?"
The she-wolf giggled softly, she had too much of a tender voice to make any loud and silly ones, though hers was still loud enough for it to travel a few feet to Kodiak. Her words were playful, with a hint of tease, but not tempting or harsh in any way.

Kodiak watched silently as the white she-wolf looked to the skys and saw the dawn as he did. He smiled slightly; she was already beautiful, but with the scenery behind her... He shook his head and took a step forward to her, his silver eyes watching the rising sun. He didn't want to go back. He hated to admit it, but he didn't. He wanted to stay here and spend his life with Angel, without anyone else bothering them. But he had a pack to lead, and they needed him right now, especially with the new arrivals and Shadowclaw still there.
A shiver ran down his spine at the thought of Shadowclaw, the wolf he'd failed to find peace with ever since he'd met him. He felt his lip curl slightly at the thought. But he let it pass when another thought made it's way into his mind; Phantos. She seemed to calm the brute, and hopefully she could help him restrain himself. After what he'd been through right before he met the wolf, and his constant actions toward Angel, he thought of Shadowclaw of anything but a comrade. However, the last thing he wanted was a fight. Kodiak sighed, not meaning for it to be an audible one, at the thought of coming back to them.
"Aren't you coming? It was your idea, wasn't it?" Kodiak heard Angel's soft voice, and he turned his metallic gaze on her. His eyes brightened when he saw her; making the thoughts about returning go away. Just like before, that same feeling of peace came over him and he grinned again. He didn't mind returning... As long as she was at his side. Kodiak bounded up to her and brushed past her on his way. He slowed his pace so they could walk together back to the cave.

The dawn was, indeed, beautiful, with the different pigments growing to a larger variety as the sun rose. The air still held a cold feel to it, though, but was becoming warmer with the new morning arriving. In the high trees birds started to rouse to the newly-found daylight, their wings heard flapping and stretching to start their chores for the day. The white fay, stuck to the ground instead of the air, looked up into an overhanging tree above her, spotting the small nest of birds that lay on a tree branch. The parents peered down from their bedding of twigs, straight down to the she-wolf a few feet down. Their scolding somewhat hurt the femme's ears, but she managed to ignore most of it, though the amount she did hear was giving her a headache. The wolf couldn't help but let a smile play at her lips.
She wasn't hungry, nor was she looking to kill the birds for her amusement. She simply grinned at their actions toward her, like she'd actually hurt them. Her azure irises blinked softly, and before she knew it a set of paw-steps grew louder, until the Alpha arrived. He hadn't stopped, but merely slowed his speed, which allowed Angel to catch up and walk with him back to the main pack-lands. The peaceful smirk on her face still showed, though obviously not at the birds. It wasn't at the sunrise, nor the fresh air of a new morning. It was at Kodiak. He was a foot or two ahead of her, but with a quick sprint she caught up to him, and slowed to a steady walk that kept up with him at an even pace. The vixen's maw hung a little low, but her tail was in a perfectly calm position, and her ears erect forwards. Her neck turned to look at Kodiak, looking at his pelt of many shades and tints of brown. She moved her muzzle forward again, and saw a fairly long trail, which was nearly cleaned entirely of debris. The fay's jowls parted in a grin, and she took a wild dash forward, ahead of the brute, but made sure to keep it slow until he got the idea; A race.
Her heart began to thud against her chest, the excitement giving her a burst of energy in such late, or early, hours. As she made it farther and farther ahead of the male, her pace weakened, and she turned back to him, but kept going onward. She took her time to look at him, searching for any signs of running forward to, or ahead, of her. Angel usually didn't do this sort of thing, but the beautiful morning was bringing her to feel fresh and energized.

Kodiak was ready to say something, when a white flash out of the corner of his eye made him freze. The brute stopped in mid-step, with a paw still dangling in the air as he watched Angel speed away. At first, his heard lurched and crumpled in on itself. Is she finally running away? he asked himself in dispare. But, before he could swing into a full mentally disastorous moment, he caught Angel's eye, and the excited spark the blue depths held. Kodiak grinned when she slowed, his heart restoring itself again, and spread his brown hued wings up into the air. He pulled the wings down with such force that it sent him up in the air. He pushed off of the earth to give him a boost upwards, and forwards. He gave one more flap to steady himself, then folded his wings to soar downward at a fast rate. There wasn't much space until he hit the ground, so he beat his wings again to propel himself forward faster than any wolf can run. Kodiak knew Angel had wings too; he wanted to make this race more interesting. His paw touched her back as he flew in a sort of taunting gesture. "Catch me if you can!" he shouted, his grin already turning into a smile.
Nearby birds who were flying peacefully in a small flock chirped angrily at the brown brute as he sped by. The early morning rays wrapped around the wolf like a warm blanket, making him feel free. The wind blew wildly against his fur. He loved flying, espectially when he was with Mayi, but hopefully Angel liked it as much as he did. They could soar together. That thought made him happier as his wings beat in a rhythmatic motion, propelling the male closer to the lagoon. His silver eyes glanced back to see if Angel was following; a goofy-looking grin plastered on his maw.
